Dive into America’s long-standing fascination with fast food—where it began, why it exploded in popularity, and how it has shaped our culture, economy, and daily lives. Throughout this course, students will explore the rise of major fast-food chains, the competition between establishments, the differences between franchises and small businesses, and how fast food compares to the global food industry.
Students will also examine nutritional impacts, analyze marketing strategies that shaped the industry, and conduct cost comparisons between fast-food meals, franchise models, small local restaurants, and healthier food options. Each week includes guided research tasks, hands-on comparisons, and opportunities to develop basic marketing concepts by looking at how companies create branding, slogans, menu design, and customer engagement.
By the end of the course, learners will develop strong skills in research, budgeting, critical thinking, comparison analysis, and basic marketing development.
