For decades, children and adults have been entertained and learned many life lessons from his magical muppets. Topics include: his background, birthplace, artistic influences, early personal interests; his early work in television/variety shows as well as a timeline of his career achievements; the formation of his own company and his contribution to TV advertising; samples of his work from The Muppet Show to the Dark Crystal, Emmet Otter & more; how his work ethic, creativity and gentle leadership guided a team of puppeteers, designers, writers, composers, and film crews for decades; his life philosophy as expressed through his work and its impact on the world; how his work promoted positive self-expression, self-acceptance and diversity. As The Jim Henson Company celebrates its 70th anniversary, this course invites students to explore the creativity, innovation, and heart that defined Jim Henson’s work. From Sesame Street to The Muppet Show and beyond, we will examine how his vision continues to shape entertainment and inspire generations.
