Summer 2025 Affinity Classes are here! Check out this IN-PERSON class on Wednesday afternoons. Classes will be held on campus at Stony Brook University beginning July 2nd with 8 classes running through August 20th.
Saddle up for an exciting ride through the dusty trails of Wild West folklore! In this mysterious and interactive class, we’ll explore legendary outlaws, daring cowboys, haunted saloons, and strange desert creatures that have captured imaginations for generations. From real-life figures like Billy the Kid and Calamity Jane to spooky tales passed down through time, students will uncover the truth (or fiction!) behind the myths of the American frontier. Together, we’ll analyze video clips, share stories, and discuss the difference between history and legend. Students will build skills in critical thinking, storytelling, and teamwork as we explore how these tales were shaped by culture and community. This class encourages creative expression and social connection—whether you’re here for the ghosts, the gunslingers, or the gold rush, there’s a legend waiting for you to discover!
